 Glossary

The glossary is the place to go to find all the info about specific terminology from Metamorphosis Lost. There isn't a ton of it, but with the occasional bit of Irish mythology and terms unique to the story, I figured it would be good to have one.

Dusk Butterfly - The spirit of a mortal in transition between this world and the next, or a messenger from another realm. Dusk butterflies only exist for a short time, burning away as they flap their wings through the air. Dusk flame consumes them until all that remains is a wisp of smoke. As one ceases to exist another seems to take its place, although they rarely travel in a kaleidoscope.

Dusk Flame - Flames summoned by Féileacán and dusk butterflies that drain light and heat instead of releasing it. The flames appear black with tips of other colours occasionally. The flames consume energy itself, erasing matter completely.

Lost Soul - The spirit of a mortal which refuses to let go of something from it's previous life. Lost Souls are trapped by the thoughts that haunt them even after death. Unable to let go of their previous life, they exist without conscious thought, unseen by mortals, unheard by all, and lost in whatever resentment binds them to this world. To Féileacán and Cú they appear as shadowy figures with some of their features from life.

Tír - A world created by a lost soul who refuses to let go of something from their past life. These worlds are made out of the lost soul's memories in life as well as fantasies, dreams and desires for what they can't let go of.

The Tracks Between - A space between worlds. The Tracks Between are where Féileacán and Cú find themselves when travelling from the real world to a lost soul's tír or from a tír back to the real world. The space resembles a modern train but with nothing visible outside of the carriage.

The Binding Barbs - Metal whip made of silver and opal which both Féileacán and Cú can summon. Féileacán's weapon of choice which he wields as an extension of himself. While he does whip it in a traditional sense, the chain seems to almost follow his will telepathically, able to grow and shrink in size as well as change course with an extra flick of his wrist or kick to the chain. Cú occasionally refers to the whip as ‘Barbara’ to Féileacán's annoyance.

  1. I have a drawing I did of myself as a Dusk Butterfly persona. Where would be the best place to post it for those who don't have Twitter or Facebook (like me, lol)?
